Teaching Books.net is a time saving portal to thousands of online book-related resources you can use to explore children's and young adult books and their authors. It provides immediate access to useful materials and exciting programs (short movies, audio book readings, book discussion guides, and more) that add a multimedia dimension to reading in the classroom, library media center, and home.
World Book Online is the online version of this popular encyclopedia. The site offers three different levels to help students explore.
World Book Kids is a general website developed especially for younger students. The site features simple navigation, easy-to-read articles, thousands of illustrations, videos, comparison tools, and a wealth of engaging games and activities.
World Book Student is tailored for students in elementary and middle schools, and includes all the articles from the print versions of the World Book Encyclopedia, plus thousands of additional articles, learning resources, and research tools.
World Book Advanced is a powerful reference tool that includes encyclopedia, multimedia, e-book, and primary source databases, fully integrated in a single search. This portion is tailored for the needs and skills of students in grades 8 and up.
SIRS Discoverer allows students to easily retrieve full-text articles from approximately 1,200 newspapers, magazines, and U.S. government documents;includes World Almanac for Kids.
CultureGrams offers concise, reliable, and up-to date country reports on 190 world cultures. It goes beyond mere facts and figures to deliver an insider'sperspective on daily life and culture, including the history, customs, and lifestyles of the world's people.
NoodleTools helps motivate students to become ethical researchers. It offers powerful note-taking software that promotes critical thinking and creativity combined with the web's most comprehensive and accurate MLA, APA, and Chicago/Turabian bibliography composer. Students can generate, edit, and publish a MLA Works Cited list or APA References list.
Work with HCPL through the A+ Partners in Education. They appreciate when K-12 teachers alert them about upcoming assignments so Library staff can be prepared for student questions. Forms should be faxed to the affiliated partner library branch at least two weeks in advance; Library instructors will call to discuss requests. They can visit you, or you can visit them!

In addition to HCLS research specialists, students (K-12) and college-age adults can connect with free tutors for assistance with math, reading, science, social studies, English/language arts, and writing. Both English and Spanish speaking tutors are available seven days a week from 2 pm until 11:55 pm. Book Adventure is a free reading motivation program for children in grades K-8. Children can create their own book lists from more than 7,000 recommended titles, take multiple choice quizzes on the books they've read, and earn points and prizes for their literary successes.
This site uses animated books to keep the attention of young readers. All the books have moving pictures and are read aloud by professional actors, complete with music, sound effects, and voices. Silly Books is designed for children ages 3-13.
This site is a learn-to-read website for PreK-2 students. Sections are divided by reading level, and animated stories help young readers with their phonics.
The International Children's Digital Library is a research project to create a digital library of outstanding children's books from all over the world. The library has more than 1,500 books in nearly 40 languages for children ages 3-13.
This site was created by the Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, and is an interactive site which includes read-along stories and printout activities for preschool and elementary school students.
